Kent Smith concentrates his practice on real estate transactions. Mr. Smith is certified by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization in Commercial Real Estate Law and in Residential Real Estate Law.
Mr. Smith has represented clients in connection with development and construction of medical office buildings, development and construction of multifamily housing, residential subdivision development, retail development, commercial and retail leases, purchase and sale transactions, and residential real estate. Mr. Smith has represented an entity which operates medical facilities, and an entity which owns and operates several blocks of mixed use (retail and multifamily) in downtown Austin. He has represented buyers and sellers in the purchase and sale of office buildings, multifamily housing, and residential subdivisions. Mr. Smith has represented landlords and tenants in leasing transactions involving medical office space, commercial office space, restaurant sites, and retail space, and has represented owners and other parties in transactions involving ground leases for mixed use developments, multifamily sites, medical campuses, and retail sites.
Prior to joining Reed & Scardino, Mr. Smith practiced law with Jackson Walker L.L.P. (and its predecessor Small, Craig and Werkenthin) from 1981 to 2013, and was a partner in the firm from 1987 to 2013.
In his spare time, Mr. Smith lifts weights, runs with a group of sprinters, attends boot camp and other fitness classes, and occasionally competes in athletic contests.
Education & Admissions
Mr. Smith received his J.D. (with honors: top 25%) from the University of Texas School of Law in 1981. Prior to attending law school, Mr. Smith received a B.B.A. (with honors: top 20%) in International Business from the University of Texas at Austin and a B.A. (with high honors: top 10%) in English from the University of Texas at Austin in 1976.
Mr. Smith is a member of the State Bar of Texas and the Travis County Bar Association. Mr. Smith is also a member of Phi Beta Kappa honorary society.
Mr. Smith has presented articles at the State Bar of Texas Advanced Real Estate Law Course, State Bar of Texas Advanced Real Estate Drafting Course, and numerous other legal seminars.
Mr. Smith is rated “AV Preeminent” (highest ranking) by Martindale-Hubbell.
